KATNISS EVERDEEN AND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
Rebels saw Katniss as the face of hope and change, dubbing her as the “Mockingjay”. Throughout the whole trilogy people just wanted equal rights as those people in the Capitol or higher districts. Katniss and the rebellion mimics Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for racial changes while Katniss fought for economic changes. Martin Luther King Jr. was the face of the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s, in the hopes of fighting inequality towards African-Americans. Like Katniss, he was also considered to be the face of hope and change. Both King and Katniss have influenced citizens, fought for the equality of others, and both were seen as leaders that can help change the government.
“We had to save you because you're the mockingjay, Katniss," says Plutarch. "While you live, the revolution lives.”
